The largest car maker in the land was effectively nationalized. It then killed more brands and product lines, even ones that could have survived.
Chrysler, hanging on to unloved mainstream sedans such as the Avenger, was in a deep crisis and needed a European manufacturer to take over its operations.
Ford, resisting the urge to go cap in hand to the government, stayed its course and solidified its market share, despite its own union troubles. It managed to shore things up and grow from there.
USA 2009? No, UK in the 1970s.
This is not a political post—it’s just pointing out how history repeats itself. I also have a funny feeling the US scenario will play out the same way as the UK one did.
British Leyland was broken up further and its “volume” operations—despite making fewer cars than London Taxis International—are owned by the Chinese state.
Chrysler UK no longer exists. Its plants wound up making Peugeots.
Ford UK might not be as strong today as in the 1980s, but it still has a good market share.

Today we are unveiling our latest release of DailyMe, featuring better personalization technology, a new community area and our much awaited behavioral recommendation engine, Newstogram™, both on DailyMe.com and in our Publisher Solutions Suite. Newstogram™ lets you see the categories, people, companies and topics you’ve been reading about and will make story recommendations based on your interests. Newstogram™ recommendations are made in the ‘Headline News for You’ area in the center of our home page and also in the right rail of most other pages.

Our latest version has furthered our efforts to provide individual users with personally relevant news. It also encompasses a community area where users can discover and share news among one another. It further advances the user-centric approach that DailyMe believes will best serve news audiences.

We’ve given the site a new design and layout and added some key functionality to the left rail of every page. Among the new features, you should note:

•	Track-It - Easy, one-click system to track news from anywhere on DailyMe.

•	My Beat - Your place to clip articles from DailyMe or from any other website and share your news with others. You can even write articles and post them to your Beat.

•	My Community - Discover news that interests you through other user-editors and the news they clip or write.

•	Multiple Digest Delivery - You can now schedule delivery of your news by topic, day and time (business news in the morning, sports and tech in the afternoon, perhaps).

Enjoy!
http://DailyMe.com

Here are some more neat finds on YouTube. I have only a vague recollection of this show, but I might be confusing with others that had fake computer messages going across the screen (The Invisible Man, The Gemini Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, etc.). Apparently, it was originally entitled Probe, but was retitled Search (possibly due to a conflict with another TV series). It didn’t last, due to a producer change and the idea of a revolving star each week (mixing between Hugh O’Brian, Doug McClure and Tony Franciosa). But the theme music and titles are great (note the use of the MICR typeface) and very early 1970s. They also hint at the optimism people had toward technology as a tool to aid mankind, in this case, an agency specializing in searches.

My friend Marie Young Tweeted about two 19-year-olds getting a book deal. As far as I can make out, as the article is not clear about it, they are rewriting 20 classics in Twitter form.
So, does that mean we will get the following (as I Tweeted back to Marie)?

@flyinglens I wonder, e.g. Cinderella: nasty stepsisters! Gone to ball, OMG, left shoe behind! Prince C. brings it back. Thank goodness!

@flyinglens
Or, Pride & Prejudice: Mum tried to hook Jane up. Darcy can be an
SOB, but he does good stuff, cool! Nice ring! Yay Gardiners!

 Scary stuff.

and Koenigsegg say there is now a memorandum of understanding,
contingent on loans from the European Investment Bank, guaranteed by
the Swedish government.
I am confident. Christian von Koenigsegg
strikes me, in the conversation I had with him some years ago, as
someone who is not afraid to answer questions directly. He is
accessible, and he loves cars.
People also had doubts about how Jaguar and Land Rover would fit with Tata, which made subcompact cars and heavy trucks in India. Yet, Tata has shown a readiness to push forward new models that Ford never had the guts to do. We need to look at the management style and the national culture. continued

Someone at Jaguar’s ad agency in London sent me a link to this today: an interview with Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum, on the next XJ saloon.

This may well be the most anticipated saloon launch this year. I can’t wait to see what the new car looks like, especially as it will be very different to the Arthur Daley–John Prescott type.
